President's Message

Aloha Damien Alumni,

The Damien Alumni Association (DAA) is in the process of completing the application process for a non-profit 501(c)(3) exemption status.  The association plans to build a financial assistance program to assist academic and athletic students attending Damien improving their scholastic experience.  The DAA, as an autonomous entity, will have a selection criteria and committee established and controlled by the alumni association.

The DAA has also taken an active part in assisting Damien Memorial School with their upcoming capital campaign.  The proverbial stars are aligning with the anticipated improvements on-campus and the collective efforts of an organized alumni association. Both are tangible steps toward reclaiming the pride we have for Damien and ensuring future students will also have this same pride.  Your support is essential in making this happen.

I am proud to report that the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s have stepped up and  filled most of their decades with class directors.  We are thankful for the involvement of the 90’s and look forward to participation from the 2000s.  The years that do not have class representation in the alumni association are as follows:  1967, 1968, 1981, 1992, 1993, 1995 thru 1999, 2000-2011.  If your class is listed and you’d like to be a director for your class, e-mail me at alum@damien.edu.

We currently have an active class directorship of 33 class directors including their alternates.  Each director serves as a representative of their respective class at the monthly meetings every 4th Thursday of the month.  Meetings are held at Damien from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The directors also organize their classes by gathering contact information and establish a communication link to share information from the DAA.

There are several committees organizing the upcoming events:

DAA Annual Membership Meeting - July 21, 2012, 5:00 p.m., Damien Cafeteria; Damien Alumni Week and 50th year celebration - Month of September.

The DAA has also developed some social media sites and we currently have a Facebook site.  Please visit us on Facebook at Damien Alumni Association (Official Website). In the future we are looking at developing a twitter site and an Internet website.

The minutes from the monthly meetings are posted on the Facebook site to keep you informed of what the DAA is doing.  The registration form to officially join the DAA is also on the Facebook site.  If you have not filled out a registration form within the past two years we ask that you download it from the Facebook site, fill it, out then scan and attach to an e-mail.  Send the e-mail to alum@damien.edu so you can be added to the registry of DAA members and be eligible for upcoming discounts.  This data also helps us to be more efficient in our communication efforts.

In closing, I’d like to thank the DAA board officials which include Mel Andres (V.P.), Tom Hee (Secretary), John Leomo (Treasurer), and Brent Limos (School Liaison), and all the Class Directors for taking an active role in building this association.

The brothers built a toughness in us from their mentorship; Damien wasn’t just a school, but a way of life.  Having graduated from Damien was a gift that we now understand its true value.  Let’s come together and make Damien Memorial School a great school.

-Viriliter Age
