Following recent tradition, Damien Memorial School’s 2016 Baccalaureate Mass was held at St. Augustine Church by the Sea in Waikiki on Saturday May 28, immediately followed by a luncheon and awards ceremony at the Pacific Beach Hotel ballroom.
Most Reverend Larry Silva, Bishop of Honolulu presided over the Mass at the beautiful church. Seniors Ian Bento and Patrick Moloney each delivered Scripture readings and Kimberly Aguada read the General Intercessions.
After Mass, the graduates-to-be emotionally reunited with their families in the pews, reflecting on their years at Damien, their families’ support, and the open road ahead of them.
Not only did Bishop Silva administer blessings onto the students and their families, but God seemed to have as well as an abundant shower sprinkled on the usually dry resort area while families were making their way into the church.
But when it was time to walk next door to the hotel, the sky was already clearing up. The blessings continued with the scrumptious food, fellowship, and well-deserved recognition of the academic and service honorees.
