The Motiv98 Foundation announced Monday, at its 2nd annual charity golf tournament, the launch of a statewide football coaches award. The Ardel Deppe Community Football Coaches Award will be given to three coaches each year who exemplify sacrifice for their program, a positive can-do attitude, and are acknowledged by their peers as successful coaches who care about their players.

The coaches must be in their position for at least 2-3 years. There is no restriction as to the level of play (youth football to high school programs will be considered) and must have a positive attitude.

"I am very pleased that we are able to launch this award in memory of my late grandfather who was very special to me," said Motiv8 Founder Marcus Mariota. He continued, "each year we will choose winners from submissions that we receive from respected leaders in the local football community."

Annually, one coach will be selected as the winner of the Ardel Deppe Community Coach Award with two others being recognized as finalists. The winner will receive a Koa Store custom made Koa plaque along with a $5,000 football equipment allowance from Motiv8 partner Riddell, with the finalists receiving a $2,500 allowance. With shrinking budgets at all levels of programs these equipment awards will help with safety of players by providing them with new equipment including Riddell helmets and shoulder pads.

This year's winner is Eddie Klaneski from Damien Memorial School. Coach Klaneski has taken on numerous positions at Damien in order to be able to coach at his alma matter. Since Coach Klaneski's arrival at Damien he has turned the program into a contender at the Division II level. Phil Rapozo of Kapaa High School and Sean Lorenzo of the Hawaii Kai Dolphins Pop Warner program are this year's finalists.

The Deppe Award with be presented each year at the annual Motiv8 Golf Tournament held in March. Nominations can be submitted to Ed Nishioka at ed@nishiokamedia.com. A Motiv8 Foundation Committee will screen applicants each year to determine one winner and two finalists.
