A Fond Farewell to a Beloved Alumni & Mentor: Remembering Raynard Suganuma '69
With heavy hearts, the Damien Memorial School ‘Ohana mourns the passing of alumnus and former educator Raynard “Kumu Kai” Suganuma ’69, who died on May 17, 2025. His loss leaves a deep void in our community.
A proud graduate of the Class of 1969, Kumu Kai returned to Damien to dedicate his life to shaping generations of students. As an educator in Theology and Hawaiian History, he was known for his passion, care, and unwavering support of his students and colleagues alike.
Kumu Kai taught more than academics; he taught life. His ability to connect, guide, and inspire left a lasting mark on all who knew him. Whether in the classroom, at athletic events, or around campus, his presence radiated warmth, faith, and brotherhood.
