Damien Memorial School Celebrates 2025 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Damien Memorial School proudly celebrated the induction of its newest members into the National Honor Society (NHS) during a special ceremony held on campus.

Family members, faculty, and fellow students gathered in support of this prestigious event, recognizing the academic excellence and moral character of these exceptional students.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Dr. Pua Higa, Principal of Damien Memorial School, who praised the inductees for their dedication to both academics and personal growth. Ms. Christina Andres, NHS Advisor and teacher, also offered words of encouragement, highlighting the significance of becoming a member of the National Honor Society. An Opening Prayer led by Mr. Jeff McGivern, Campus Minister, set the tone for the event, grounding the moment in reflection and gratitude.
Following the prayer, NHS Co-Presidents Isabelle Inocencio and Elizabeth Nguyen led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, a reminder of the values that the National Honor Society upholds: loyalty, responsibility, and service to others.
A central tradition of the NHS Induction Ceremony is the Lighting of the Four Pillars, which represent the core values of the society:
Scholarship – Symbolizing a commitment to learning, this pillar recognizes academic excellence and a lifelong love of knowledge.
Leadership – Representing initiative and vision, this pillar honors those who guide and inspire others.
Service – This pillar reflects a heart for helping others and giving back to the community without expecting anything in return.
Character – Emphasizing integrity, honesty, and strong moral principles, this pillar is the foundation upon which trust and respect are built.
Each candle was lit with reverence, symbolizing the commitment each inductee makes to uphold these enduring principles.
The National Honor Society, founded in 1921, is one of the nation's premier organizations recognizing outstanding high school students. NHS serves to honor those who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character—the four pillars upon which the organization stands. Membership is more than an honor; it is a commitment to continue striving for excellence and to serve as a role model for others.
At the close of the ceremony, inductees recited the National Honor Society Pledge:
"I pledge to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society
to which I have been selected;
I will be true to the principles for which it stands;
and will maintain and encourage
high standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character."
Congratulations to all the newly inducted members of the National Honor Society. Your hard work, dedication, and integrity make the Damien community proud. We look forward to witnessing the impact you will continue to make within our school and beyond.
