Monarchs Abroad: Exploring South Korea in 2027

Prepare your passports, Monarchs! We are thrilled to announce that Damien Memorial School is looking toward the horizon for an unforgettable international journey: The 2027 South Korea Immersion Trip.

This 9-day educational tour is designed to take students beyond the classroom and into the heart of one of the world's most dynamic cultures. From the high-tech streets of Seoul to the ancient temples of Gyeongju, our students will experience the "Land of the Morning Calm" in a way few ever do.

Trip Highlights: A Journey Through Time

Our itinerary is packed with hands-on learning and cultural exploration. Here is a glimpse of what our Monarchs will experience:

  • Traditional Arts & Flavors: In Jeonju, students will visit the Paper Museum to learn the craft of hanji (traditional paper) and participate in an authentic Korean cooking class—mastering staples like kimchi and bibimbap.

  • The "Museum Without Walls": We’ll travel to Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty. Students will stand before the historic Cheomseongdae observatory and explore the breathtaking Seokguram Grotto.

  • Modern Energy in Busan: From the heights of Busan Tower to the bustling stalls of the Jagalchi Fish Market, students will see how South Korea’s premier port city balances tradition with modern commerce.

  • History & Future in Seoul: We’ll ride the high-speed KTX train back to the capital to explore Gyeongbokgung Palace, the futuristic HiKR Ground (an XR K-pop playground), and the historic DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).

Why International Travel Matters

At Damien, our mission is to prepare students to be "community-minded men and women ready for the challenges of their future." International trips provide:

  • Global Perspective: Understanding different political and social landscapes firsthand.

  • Cultural Competency: Learning to navigate and respect diverse traditions and languages.

  • Independence: Navigating new environments and building confidence away from home.
