Top 5 Tips for Parents After the 1st Quarter
Supporting Your Monarch for a Strong Quarter 2
As the first quarter wraps up, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on how far our students have come — and how we can help them finish the semester strong. Quarter grades aren’t the finish line, but rather a checkpoint to learn, grow, and reset.
Here are five simple, meaningful ways parents and guardians can support their Monarchs as we move into Quarter 2:
1. Take Care of the Basics
It might sound simple, but rest, nutrition, and movement are game-changers. When students are well-rested and nourished, they can focus better, handle stress, and bring their best selves to class. Encourage healthy sleep routines, balanced meals, and time to get outside or move around — especially during busy weeks.
2. Plan Ahead for a Smooth Quarter
Look ahead at your family’s calendar to anticipate busy stretches with schoolwork, sports, and activities. Planning ahead helps reduce last-minute stress and keeps students organized. Even small steps — like restocking school supplies or creating a study space — can make a big difference in helping your child stay on top of things.
3. Listen First, Then Strategize
When challenges come up, start with empathy. Sometimes the best support is just listening and letting your student share what’s on their mind. Once they feel heard, you can work together to come up with a plan or schedule that breaks big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps.
4. Review, Reflect, and Reset
Quarter grades are a snapshot, not the final semester grade. Use this time to talk with your student about what went well, what was challenging, and what goals they’d like to set for the next quarter. Celebrating small wins and identifying growth areas can build confidence and motivation heading into Quarter 2.
5. Partner with Teachers and Counselors
We’re all part of the same team. If your student needs extra support or encouragement, reach out to their teachers or counselors early — we are here to help. Collaboration between home and school ensures every Monarch has the tools and guidance they need to succeed.
Moving Forward Together
Each new quarter brings a fresh start — a chance to reflect, refocus, and rise stronger. With a little preparation and partnership, our Monarchs can continue building confidence, character, and curiosity both in and out of the classroom.
